St Albans District Woodcraft Folk

We meet on Thursday evenings during term time. We go camping as a district, with all groups taking part, over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, usually for 3 or 4 days. In addition the Pioneers and Venturers are encouraged to organise their own camping expeditions and other activities. Our camps are where we put into practice many of the skills and the co-operative philosophy we develop during weekly group meetings. We cook wonderful meals on open wood fires, catering for vegetarians, vegans as well as carnivores. We hike, organise craft activities and of course play lots of games. Groups are run on a democratic basis and co-operative games and activities are encouraged.
We operate a strict child protection policy, as required by the national organisation, whereby all registered adults are vetted by the organisation and provide referees. In addition we operate a parent rota, requiring parents of Elfins and Pioneers to assist with the running of one group meeting a term. (Don't be put off, you won't be asked to do anything too onerous!) Parents are welcome to join us on any of our activities. Parents often accompany our younger Elfins on their first camp.
